The Glamorgan Brewing Company has been recognised by the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) for a number of awards at the SIBA Wales & West Independent Beer Awards 2016. One of Glamorgan’s flagship brews Jemima’s Pitchfork was awarded gold in the hotly contested Best Bitters & Pale Ales category and went on to pick up the silver medal overall.
The beer, a 4.4% ABV golden ale brewed with a mix of British & American hops, is named for Welsh heroine Jemima Nicholas, who famously captured twelve French soldiers during the 1797 Battle of Fishguard using only a pitchfork. It seems the beer she inspired is no slouch either!
The brewery was also recognised with a silver medal in the Premium Bitters & Pale Ales category for Thunderbird – a 4.5% ABV IPA which also makes up part of their core range.
The SIBA medals cap off an incredible week for Glamorgan Brewing Co. with the business’s distribution arm also scooping Best of the Best at ABInBev’s Wholesaler of the Year Awards. The family firm beat out stiff competition to claim top prize from the world’s largest brewery, citing a series of new best practice guidelines as instrumental to their success.
Speaking about their recent accolades the businesses’ Managing Director Richard Anstee was buoyant: ‘We are beyond pleased to pick up two prestigious awards in the space of a week. Our successes are testament to our amazing employees’ hard work and effort over the past few years.
To be recognised by SIBA is a huge honour in the brewing world, and to have picked up Gold and Silver medals for the second time in 12 months goes beyond our wildest dreams.
‘To then be acknowledged by ABInbev as Best of the Best supply partner in the UK, despite extremely tough competition, is the icing on the cake. It’s testament to the focus and commitment of our employees and I thank them wholeheartedly.
‘We’ve got the best water in the world, brewing industry knowledge going back three generations and are guided by a core principle of quality above all; using only the finest ingredients and cutting no corners in our quest to brew & supply the best beers Wales has to offer.’
Glamorgan Brewing Company was founded in 1994 and now employs over 40 full time staff across two sites in Llantrisant, South Wales.
